Boa constrictors are beautiful and grow big, females get bigger then the males. Males seem can grow up to about 8ft while females can grow up to about 10ft. If your thinking about getting a boa you will eventually need a big vivaruim remember if you get a young boa it will get bigger. If you get a young boa a small tank will do for now. A tank, heating, food, fresh water, and somewhere to hide and branches to climb.

At the moment bones is eating two weaner rats every two weeks but in about six months i will try him on a large rat. All the info on this site is only a guideline that has worked out for me.The vivarium bones is in has a heatmat in his hot hide which stays at a constant heat. With an energy saving light bulb that stays on between 10 to 12 hours a day on a timer. If you happen to get a snake and you havent got time or money for a tank yet get a large plastic container from any hardware shop, get a heat mat put the heatmat under a 1/4 in ply put the container over the ply. This is done so the snake can lay over the heat without getting burnt , then you put about twenty holes in the lid for air.Make sure you stick the lid down so it cant escape or put something on top of the lid. Inside put in a water bowl , bedding, something for it to hide under and there you go its got a temporary tank that will do for now until you can sort out a proper home for your snake.
The branches i got from a broken branch from a field locally i got it home and peeled of the bark so it was bare then i washed it down then let it dry for a few days. Then i gave it a few coats of varnish, let it dry for a day then it was ready to put in the vivarium. If you you put rocks or stones in your tank make sure you wash them well first.Basically looking after your snake is like looking after any other snake no matter what breed you have the care is just the same.I havent been bitten yet but you must understand that if you have a snake that the chances are you will get bitten one day. A full grown adult boa can weigh from 40 to 50 pounds and will need a big tank. If you find your boa is wrapping itself around your arm or neck you can unwind it by unwrapping it starting from its tail .If you try from the head you may find the snake is stronger then you. A boa can live up to 30 yrs old so think before you buy, boas habitats range from the high cloud forests to the dry low lands.Red tailed boas can come from brazil, south america, columbia, mexico.
In the wild boas can prey on birds, othersnakes, lizards; rodents. amphibians.

There are different species of boa constrictors with a lovely variety of markings and colours. What ever snake you buy ENJOY.
